The active participation in the traditions, customs, and activities of local communities allows us to approach and generate bonds of trust with the community and its leaders. This relationship is also important for the effectiveness and sustainability of social investment projects, which we drive as an actor involved with local development.
There is a wide variety of activities that are implemented throughout the year, with the intention of improving this relationship, as well as providing information, getting to know people, getting involved, and connecting with the communities where we work. These activities also help us to reinforce our open-door policy and our emphasis on transparency. These rapprochement and communication tasks involve a range of actors from different areas of the company, allowing for a better coordination of the work done to the benefit of others.
In 2016, we carried out: 79 guided visits, with the participation of the general population, as well as regional and district authorities, students, and journalists; 105 radio ads on community work; 36 issues of the “Willaspa” newsletter (whose title means “Communicate” in Quechua); 50 workshops and 49 activities in induction processes on topics related to social and environmental matters; and we received visits from 4,299 people at the Communication Offices in our units.
