Yanacocha is Latin America’s first gold producer and one of the most important gold districts in the world. It is operated by Newmont Mining, Denver USA, who is its majority shareholder holding 51.35%. The World Bank, through the International Finance Corporation, holds the remaining 5%.
Located 48 km north of the city of Cajamarca, at altitudes ranging between 3,500 and 4,200 m.a.s.l.
