25 years ago, when Buenaventura celebrated its "Silver Anniversary", it was decided by the company’s directors to draw up a document describing the organization’s vision, essential values, objectives and future plans. This is what they wrote:

Buenaventura is a Peruvian mining company whose core business is the extractive industry and its ancillary activities. Rational exploitation of the mining resources it holds constitutes its main concern within this field.

Growth is BUENAVENTURA’s main objective, which explains why the company reinvests a significant percentage of its profit, creating new job opportunities.

BUENAVENTURA believes that growth and development are key for it to be in a position to co-participate in major corporations with the help of private or state, foreign or domestic capital.

BUENAVENTURA is aware of the fact that one of its principle duties towards the country is to generate foreign currency, but considers that this is not all it has to do.

BUENAVENTURA , considers that apart from paying the applicable taxes, its duty towards the country also includes taking an active part in the economic development of the country, particularly in that of the regions it operates in. As for its contribution to economic development on a national scale, its policy is to support the national industry sector dedicated to manufacturing mining materials and equipment.

On a regional scale, the company provides as much support as it possibly can to the surrounding communities.

BUENAVENTURA understands that the success of its operations greatly depends on the efficiency of its employees. In this context, the company is committed to make its best efforts to provide ongoing training programs for all levels of staff.

BUENAVENTURA believes that in doing its utmost best to ensure the well-being of its employees, the company not only complies with its responsibility of social solidarity, but also invests in a successful outcome. Company policy includes the provision of health and education to employees and their families as an important factor, and even goes beyond that: at present, BUENAVENTURA is making great efforts to improve the housing facilities in its different centers of operation. As far as the company is concerned, housing not only needs to be suitable for its dwellers, but rather, and to the extent possible, should be integrated to the region. In this context, great care has been taken to arrange the houses in duly organized groups, with a view to eventually becoming cities.

In order to achieve these objectives,BUENAVENTURA needsto constantly optimize it operations so as to improve profitability and thereby be in a position to finance the investment that such a program requires without neglecting the legitimate expectations of the company’s shareholders.”

Quoted from the 1979 publication.

Today, 25 years later, we can say that we continue to hold those same essential values and the same policy of commitment to the development of Peru, to our shareholders, employees and surrounding communities, because we are convinced that it is this level of commitment and these values that are precisely that which will allow us to continue pursuing this adventure throughout the next fifty years.
